Royal Canin Urinary Care is a complete dry food for healthy adult cats, formulated to keep the urinary tract working well — by managing the mineral content of the urine and encouraging your cat to produce more of it, more dilute.
Why cats are built badly for this
Domestic cats descend from desert animals. They evolved to extract most of their water from prey and to survive on very little, which left them with a weak thirst drive — a cat will not reliably drink to make up a shortfall the way a dog does.
The result is small volumes of highly concentrated urine sitting in the bladder for long stretches. That is the condition in which minerals crystallise. This food works on both halves of the problem: it regulates the mineral balance so there is less to crystallise, and it is designed to encourage a more dilute urine so what remains stays in solution.

If your cat has been diagnosed with crystals, stones, cystitis or has had a blockage, they need a therapeutic urinary diet prescribed and monitored by your vet — a different product from this one. Buying this instead will not treat the condition.
Straining in the litter tray with little or nothing coming out. Repeated trips to the tray. Crying while trying to urinate. Blood in the urine. Licking at the genitals persistently. Hiding, or refusing food alongside any of these.
In male cats especially, a blocked urethra is a medical emergency and can be fatal within a day or two. It is often mistaken for constipation. If you are unsure whether your cat is passing urine, treat it as urgent and call a vet now — do not wait to see whether a change of food helps.
Feeding it
Water intake does at least as much work as the food. Several bowls around the house, away from the food and the litter tray, changed daily. Many cats drink more from a wide shallow bowl than a deep narrow one, and some will only drink from running water.
Adding wet food to the routine raises water intake more reliably than any amount of encouragement to drink.
Change foods gradually over about a week. Keep the litter tray clean — a cat that avoids a dirty tray holds urine longer, which is the opposite of what you want here.
