Royal Canin Mini Puppy is a complete dry food for small breed puppies — those heading for an adult weight under 10 kg — from around two months to ten. It covers the shortest and most demanding stretch of a dog's life.
The handover nobody sees
A newborn puppy borrows its mother's immunity, absorbed from her first milk. That protection does not last. Over the early months it fades, and the puppy has to build an immune system of its own to replace it — a handover that happens invisibly, while everything else is also being built at once: bones, muscle, nervous system, senses.
This is why puppy food is not simply adult food in smaller pieces. Royal Canin build in an antioxidant complex with vitamins C and E to support those developing defences, protein at a level that lets the puppy construct its own, and prebiotics with highly digestible protein for a gut that is still settling. It is also why your vet's vaccination schedule falls where it does — it is timed to cover the same gap.
Fast growth, small stomach
Small breeds do most of their growing in a few months, reaching adult size far sooner than large ones. That takes a great deal of energy, and a small puppy's stomach cannot hold much at a time. The answer is concentrated food in frequent small meals — which is what the energy density here is for. The kibble is sized for a jaw that is still losing milk teeth, and the aroma is worked on deliberately, because small breed puppies are notoriously particular.

Small puppies cannot skip meals. Toy and small breed puppies have very little energy in reserve, and can drop into low blood sugar within hours of missing food — wobbliness, weakness, glazed eyes or collapse. Feed little and often, three or four times a day at this age, and do not let a young puppy go a long stretch without eating. If one seems unusually quiet or unsteady, that is a vet call, not a wait-and-see.
Feeding it
Follow the pack chart by expected adult weight and current age, and reduce the number of meals as the puppy grows — four a day early on, down to two by adulthood.
Resist overfeeding. Faster is not better: growing too quickly puts strain on developing joints, and a fat puppy is more likely to become a fat adult.
Introduce it over about a week, especially if your puppy has just moved home — a new house and a new food at once is a common cause of an upset stomach. Fresh water always available.
At around ten months a small breed is nutritionally adult, and Mini Adult takes over. Staying on puppy food beyond that supplies more energy than a finished dog needs.
